What I Loved about being a Mom this Week

(Every week I try to reflect on some of the things that made me happy as a Mom that week. It's a great way for me to start the new week with love and gratitude.)

If you know this little girl, you understand why her nickname is "Menace".

She doesn't stop folks. She is relentless at being up to no good. Just a couple weeks ago I walked upstairs to use the bathroom and on my way back down the stairs I heard a distinctive sound...the garbage disposal. In a matter of minutes, she had scooted a dining chair over to the sink, used it to climb up onto the kitchen counter, got into the kitchen sink and reached to turn on the garbage disposal WHILE SHE WAS STANDING IN THE SINK! I think I should probably be in the Guinness Book of World Records for running down the stairs faster than anyone in the Universe...Can't tell you how grateful I am that we walked away from that experience without a mangled foot or hand, and without me having a heart attack.

This week she managed to dump a bag of box tops into the bottom of the dishwasher mid-cycle...(of which we tried desperately to save so we could still turn them in!)

She dumped over my beautiful floral arrangement in my front room, breaking my pot....(luckily, no one was hurt!)

And I even snuck up on her with the dishwasher open, using it as a step stool to reach up to the counter to clean up Daddy's leftover green smoothie mess...(Totally gross, I know! At least she got her extra boost of greens for the day. Hahaha!) By the way, I love the fact that I had this picture to grumble to my husband about cleaning up after himself! Lol!!

I have pretty much perfected the art of gritting my teeth and that wrinkle that shows up on my forehead when I scrunch my face that means YOU ARE VERY STRESSED OUT, it is there more often than I want to admit to...

As difficult of a child she has seemed to be these last 2 years, I realized something this week...I am so thankful God made her that way!

There will come a time in her life when a situation will arise where she feels like she has to climb a tall mountain and won't know quite how to reach the top...

But she will find a way...
She always does!

There are going to be times in her life where she might feel trapped or discouraged...

But with her strong will and determination, I know she will find a way to free herself...

She always does!

Without a doubt there are going to be days where she is going to feel sad...

There are times she is going to feel confused...

Maybe even a little scared...

And she is DEFINITELY going to have her fair share of bad hair days...

But I know God gave her a personality to withstand it. He gave her a personality to find strength in areas where others are fearful...

He gave her the gift of laughter...

He blessed her with a desire to gain as much knowledge as she possibly can...And she will climb up on a fence and stick her head through the posts to get a couple more inches of visibility to make sure she isn't missing a thing!

It's true, God gave her a strong personality...It's a personality that will serve her well in her life!

Oh, the places this little girl will go...

You are a truly amazing person, Rachel! You have the patience of a saint and to be able to find such positivity in life's everyday challenges is a real gift. It's easy to become a parent, the real job is being a good parent-and you're one of the best I know! Every child deserves a mom like you

You totally crack me up! I love the photo with the forehead wrinkled identified. (By the way, I think I make that same face!) You have a wonderful perspective. Thank you for sharing and reminding me that some of the same personality traits that get my boys in trouble are likely to serve them well later in life! I just hope I survive to see it! :)

So funny and sweet all at once... though I think I would have flipped about the disposal thing:)

Wow, it sounds just like you were describing Kate as a toddler. She was a hard toddler, but Jon and I always felt strongly that many of the things that frustrated us about her at that age would be her greatest strengths as she grew. We were right, and we're definitely seeing that with our experience here in Moscow. With her take-the-bull-by-the-horns personality she confidently walks into her Russian class every day, learns the language, and succeeds in what she puts her mind to. It's really incredible to watch. She seems to thrive in this challenge of living in a new country and loves it.

I'm sure you're totally right--God has big plans for your little girl, too. And, she WILL succeed with her head held high.
