Five Little Turkeys Craft

My little girl recently turned two and has become increasingly interested in arts and crafts. Her favorite thing to do lately is to color "Happy Faces" as she says. It is kind of a new era for me since my blog has primarily been dedicated to preschool and elementary-age crafts, but I'm super excited to see her grow and develop and start sharing more toddler-age crafts here with you.

I recently came across this little package of Wilton brand mini cupcake liners at Wal-Mart that had fun Fall colors on them and they became the base for our fun Five Little Turkeys craft. This whole package was only $0.88. You could always use any type of cupcake liner and let your toddler color them.

Not only was this a great project for practicing using glue, but it was also great for hand and eye coordination since she had to place the small googly eyes and beaks on to her turkeys.

To make the craft, my daughter glued five of the cupcake liners onto her sheet of paper. Next she glued five brown turkey bodies I had pre-cut for her onto the cupcake liners. Lastly, I added dots of glue on her turkeys where she placed the googly eyes and beaks. I omitted the turkey snoods to make the project simpler since it was her first, but you could certainly add them in. The project turned out so cute and it would even be great for preschool students!

To go along with this craft we read Five Little Turkeys by William Boniface. I like that the book has the little plastic turkeys adhered to each page to add visual interest for toddlers. Each page one of them disappears. The last page in the book has a pop-out which was fun also.

My little girl is so proud of her artwork!

I asked her which turkey was her favorite. "Dat one!" she said.

Thanks for stopping by!
