Cupcake Liner Igloo Craft for Kids

We came across a cute book at the library last week called Immi’s Gift. It’s a great multicultural book about a young Eskimo girl. I love how the book creates connections between people from different parts of the world. We got out our trusty cupcake liners and made a fun Igloo craft to go along with the book.

Supplies:

  • blue cardstock paper
  • white cardstock paper
  • black cardstock paper
  • 1 regular-size white cupcake liner
  • 1 small cupcake liner
  • white paint
  • small paper plate
  • scissors
  • glue
Directions:
1. Start by cutting a snow mound out of your white cardstock paper and gluing it onto your blue cardstock paper.
2. Cut the bottom of your cupcake liners so that they have flat edges. Glue your large cupcake liner onto your snow mound.
3. Cut an opening in your small cupcake liner to make an igloo entrance. Cut a section from your black cardstock paper as a backing to the igloo entrance and glue it to the back of the small cupcake liner. Now, glue the small cupcake liner in front of the large cupcake liner.
4. Add a small amount of white paint to a small paper plate. Make fingerprint snowflakes all over your paper. Let it dry completely.
While ice fishing, a young Eskimo girl catches a small, brightly pained bird at the end of her line. She adds it to her necklace next to a bear charm. Each day she catches new treasures which she uses to decorate her igloo. Animals visit her and tell her about distant lands until the snow begins to melt and she has to move. Before leaving she drops her bear charm into her fishing hole and eventually a young boy discovers it on a beach in a far away land.
