Tips for Smart Summer Snacking with Yoplait

A big thank you to Yoplait® for sponsoring today’s post. When I was a kid, every Friday evening my parents would do the grocery shopping for the next week and when they got home we always had a quick and easy “cold dinner” as we called it. The dinner consisted of various things, crackers, peanuts, cheese, fruit and there was always yogurt. I loved how nontraditional it was. It was one of my favorite dinners. Yoplait® Yogurt is more typically considered a breakfast food to some people, but even as a child I loved it throughout the entire day, especially at snack time. My kids love it too.

Since summer is in full swing we have been busy enjoying as much time outside in the sunshine as we can. With all of our fun adventures and being on the go often, having snacks on hand has been a necessity. A few weeks ago I shared our Key Lime Pie Yogurt Parfait that we love to have at home as an afternoon snack, but when we are on the go we also love to pair Yoplait® Yogurt with other wholesome foods. Here are three simple tips that have helped me this summer to keep my kids on track with smart summer snacking while we’re on the go:

1. Think ahead. When you’re out doing your grocery shopping for the week, think ahead about any outings you have planned during the week and make sure to purchase plenty of snacks so that you are prepared. When I’m shopping I also plan a little extra for those sporadic trips to the swimming pool or park.

2. Purchase an insulated food bag or small cooler and an ice pack dedicated for snacks. I have an insulated food bag that is dedicated for snacks and having it has made snack prep so much easier for me on those summer days when we are out and about. When we get ready to go somewhere I know exactly where the snack bag is and so do my kids, and they are even able to help get it ready so we can get on our way.

3. Choose wholesome snacks. I don’t know about you, but when I’m out and about with my kids the last thing I want is to load them up with sugar and have them hyper. That is why we always try to pick foods that are not only grab and go snacks, but that are more wholesome. Our favorites include Yoplait® Yogurt, apples, carrot sticks and string cheese. All of them store great in my insulated bag with an ice pack and I always have them on hand for the kids.

Being prepared with great snacks is especially helpful when we’re out and about running errands and we decide to make a sporadic trip to the park before heading home. After some much needed play time and exercise, my kids are always eager for a yummy snack. I love how Yoplait® offers so many varieties like Original, Light, Greek and Gogurt®. One of my kids’ favorite things to do is freeze a Gogurt® and take it along with us to the swimming pool as a yummy frozen snack when we take a poolside break.

What are your family favorite snacks? What tips and tricks do you have to keep your family on track with smart summer snacking?
